Mr. Smarmy came from Washington
Was David Yepsen watching the same debate as the rest of Iowa? Maybe he just didn’t have the volume turned up, because Nussle did not win, not even by a hair.
Chet Culver silenced critiques of his capability once and for all Monday night (10/9/06). While Culver came off as confident and collegial in his responses, Nussle just seemed smarmy.
Culver offered real solutions to the issues presented, and clear vision of Iowa as the sustainable energy producer of the future. Nussle offered the same tired refrain of tax cuts, tax cuts, tax cuts. I had to keep checking to make sure the sky wasn’t falling after Nussle’s alarmist cries that some - no most - no all of Iowa’s businesses were fleeing the state for lower tax rates.
Sure, Nussle wants to do everything Culver does, support education, corrections, police and firefighters, but some how he’ll do it without costing us a dime. I suppose he’s got some GPS ankle bracelets that fell off the back of a truck.
For Iowans that care about realistic solutions to the actual problems facing Iowa, and not just gotcha politics and wedge issues, watch the next debate and you’ll see Chet’s your man.
